Mutation of Sounds and Dialogues: British Council Grant 2022 UK-SEA Asia Connections Through Culture
The pandemic, still, has led us to reconsider the future of art and procedures of artistic creation. The usage of digital technologies and online networking in the arts are now increasing which will create the durability that we need to broaden not only the possibilities of new techniques in technology and the arts but also the development of sounds, cultures and traditions in Southeast Asia and the UK. This is a great opportunity to connect artists to share our mutual experiences and local knowledge in art and music, and to initiate a new and creative collaboration between our territories.
On January 30th, 2022, 7pm (GMT+7), we will achieve our mission by conducting activities on digital platforms which include online cultural exchange workshops, discussions, and presenting new compositions of Thai and UK Composers. We are streaming 3 musical programs; including Online Collaborative Documentary: Work in Progress of Scott Wilson’s new composition, A Group Lecture and Discussion, and Streaming Performance: performed by Taceti Ensemble and Young Thai Musicians.

The concept of hybridity raises several issues for artists and makers in our art community: How do contemporary artists make use of and expand the capabilities of media and technology in their artistic creation? Do we really require technology in our jobs, and if so, why? How do reality and digitality interact? Is the spread of innovation influencing or distorting their creative process? Thailand New Music and Arts Symposium 2021 includes works that represent multidisciplinary, intercultural, and hybridity with artistic diversity in the hopes of raising awareness, broadening our vision, and eliciting further questions about our cultural roots in order to generate creativity and advance new initiatives. On behalf of the Thailand Music and Art Organization, I would like to invite you to join us in exploring the endless possibilities of cultural reconnection in the hybrid world.

“Resilience, Distance, Connection in Isolation, Space from Afar”
The pandemic has led us to reconsider the future of art and procedures of artistic creation. The pursuit of resilience through online networking, now and in an increasingly digital future, will create the durability that we need to broaden not only the possibilities of technology and the arts but also the development of cultures and communities in Southeast Asia and the UK.
This project is leading by two main artists between United Kingdom and Thailand, Dr. Scott Wilson and Piyawat Louilarpprasert with support by the British Council Grant 2021: UK-Southeast Asia Connections Through Culture. The project aims to exchange local and mutual knowledge of music with the theme: “Resilience, Distance, Connection in Isolation, Space from Afar”. With the missing presence of artistic creativities during the pandemic situation, we will build on existing relationships, and introduce younger artists to this network of connections.
